Tomorrow is moving day...Well I am about 24 hours away from beginning my adventure to Seattle.
Donated all my leftover furniture to an no-kill animal shelter (their thrift store provides funding for the shelter).
Called a former co-worker, Wanda, and gave her two bikes, ironing board, small appliances, and a box of food I was going to drop at the food bank. With as many kids as she has in her house at any given time, she's just as likely to need it as anyone.
Matt and Phoebe came by last weekend for a short visit and they took a sewing machine (I had two!), pots and pans, food and a couple of hugs from me.
I sold just over 215 CDs and made $447.85. This will almost cover my gas bill to Seattle. I sold another several boxes of books, and made nearly a hundred bucks. Gas bill....check!
Everything else is either on its way in the mail to Washington, or in my car.
The hardest part about all of this was having to part with my bike, Tony. I've had Tony for over 14 years. I was with Candice, on the very last day of high school, when we got into an accident on O Street...the insurance money I was paid for the accident bought that bike. It was nearly a thousand dollars new, and when my dad found out he was furious I hadnt' fixed my (already piece of shit) car. He claimed it was a poor investment and that I wouldn't have it long... Well fuckin a, I showed him!
Putting it into Wanda's truck I could feel a cry creeping up on me. I warned her aloud not to laugh, and that I might cry as I had owned Tony for 14 years. I'm getting a little misty-eyed right now. It's for the best. It would have cost an arm and a leg for a mounted bike rack, and I haven't ridden him but once since I've been in Florida. Yesterday I gave away one of my babies.
After all the stuff was taken away I flagged down the ice cream man (something I've been meaning to do for a year and a half, as they have year-round ice cream truck action) and bought myself a bomb-pop. They're called firecrackers now, and are skinny all the way up...not pointed at the top and then fat in the middle like they used to be. The song on the ice cream truck was awesome, and I couldn't remember the name.. the driver incorrectly indentified it as the theme from Chariots of Fire, I smiled and handed over my money. I will find out what that song is someday.
Today is the last full day I'll spend in Florida as a resident. I couldn't be happier and more anxious to get on the road.
